HUMANITIES COMMUNICATORS GROUP

Co-organized and managed with the Duke Office of News and Communications, the Humanities Communicators Group - The Humanicators - is a working group of administrators in humanities departments and programs, arts presenters, and other related Duke units, who are charged with communications tasks, whether external (such as press and media relations) or internal (such as distributing news and events information within the Duke community).

The Humanicators convene three-four times each academic year to share information and best practices. In addition to its information-sharing function, the Humanicators also arrange for its members specially tailored professional development opportunities, such as web design, media relations, and writing workshops.

Recently, the Humanicators developed and deployed a web-based planning calendar that enables departments and units to share program scheduling information in advance, while plans are still taking place. This tool will not only decrease the amount of program overlap and “competition” for audiences on the Duke campus, it will also help Duke’s humanities community to identify and act upon opportunities for collaboration.

The Humanicators are coordinated by the Duke Office of News & Communications, and Christina Chia, Assistant Director for Programs and Communications, Franklin Humanities Institute.

Duke faculty members and administrators who are interested in learning more about the Humanicators should contact Chris Chia for more information.
